The subsonic filter ensures that very low frequencies are filtered out of the music signal. Each speaker can sound correctly only down to a certain low frequency. When supplied with signals below this frequency there is a rumble, the woofer excursion is made unnecessarily lengthy and the reproduction of other sound deteriorates.
